If you wish to enhance your oral health care, it is important to make sure your teeth are straight and free of malocclusions. Malocclusions consist of bad bites and misalignments that can lead to crooked teeth. Orthodontic treatments are effective at treating a wide variety of malocclusions to straighten your smile and give you the oral health you require.

Typically, malocclusions are present in your front teeth known as the incisors. Conditions such as overbites, deep bites, underbites, open bites, and misplaced midlines all arise with ailments related to our incisors. Overbites arise when the upper incisors stick out past the lower incisors. Conversely, underbites arise when the lower incisors stick out past the upper incisors. Severe forms of overbites are known as deep bites, and are sometimes called closed bites. When the incisors fail to line up and connect when the jaw is closed, this is known as an open bite. If your incisors are not correctly aligned, a misplaced midline occurs.

When teeth erupt above the gum line, they tend to fall into place where they are meant to be. However, on rare occasions or due to outside influence, they may not arrive in the proper place, or switch spots with other teeth, resulting in the malocclusion known as a transposition malocclusion. Other common malocclusions include spacing irregularities such as overcrowded teeth, or large and unevenly spaced gaps between teeth.
